ENGINEERING PROGRAMS
Programs of Study
Associate of Science in Engineering Graduates of the Associate of Science in Engineering program will have the skills to continue on to a 4-year college engineering curriculum at the junior year level. The first year curriculum explores the various disciplines and establishes a solid foundation for continued study. Second year students start classes in their engineering specialization.
Most Engineering Classes in this curriculum will be taught in a distributed format that enables remote participation throughout the Germanna service region. All course work requires electronic inking capabilities for both in-class work and independent assignments. No paper will be exchanged. Voice-Over-IP will also be used for live audio exchange between students and Instructors. Students will need access to a computer that is equipped with both a microphone and speakers for class participation. The Fredericksburg, Locust Grove and Culpeper Locations will have student computers available, however students may need to purchase a headset with microphone. If you do not have access to a computer with the recommended configuration, contact Mark Gibson at mgibson@germanna.edu for more information. Students that want to purchase their own computers can find the recommended configurations at the link above. Articulation Agreements Graduates of the program with sufficient grade point average are eligible for guaranteed entry into both the University of Virginia and Virginia Tech under existing agreements between the Virginia Community College System (VCCS) and these institutions. UVA VA Tech This program is awaiting approval by the accreditation authority. Classes will begin in the fall of 2009 for this course of study. Career Study Certificates (CSC) Career Study Certificates are specialized areas of study that emphasize focused content such as surveying, drafting, industrial electricity, electronics, machining and manufacturing, information technology, mechanical systems, integrated mechanical-electrical systems, and green energy technology systems. Two CSCs ar currently available.
Engineering Technology
The Engineering Technology program helps to prepare students for entry-level positions in engineering such as:
Please see the Engineering Program Overview Briefing on the main page or click here for the Germanna Catalogue Page. Several drafting courses in this curriculum can be taken at local high schools through the Dual Enrollment Program. Click here to learn more about this opportunity. Industrial Maintenance Technology This Program is designed to meet the need for trained industrial maintenance technicians. It is
designed for those who wish to work as maintenance employees or those who have just been hired as
maintenance employees. It may also assist current employees with upgrading the skills necessary to
support and maintain high-technology equipment. Upon completion of the program, students will be prepared for work as:
