10. Helpful Hints

1. Create a 'shortcut' link to your course - directly from your desktop.

  1. Go to the page in your browser.
  2. Right click in the page.
  3. Click on 'Create Shortcut'.


2. Maximize your browser window when viewing class material.

It is easier to understand material when you can see the 'big picture'.


3. Monitor settings: Your monitor should be set at 800x600.

Steps to set your monitor to 800 x 600:
  1. Right click on your desktop
  2. Select 'Properties'
  3. Select the 'Settings' tab at the top
  4. In the area labeled 'Desktop Area', slide the bar to choose 800x600
  5. Push the 'Test' button - this will assure your settings appear correctly.
  6. Read the information in the pop-up box, then select 'O.K.'
  7. If you saw the test pattern correctly, select 'Yes'.
  8. Select 'Apply'
  9. Select 'O.K.


4. Print and post your course schedule where you can refer back to it often.

Put it in the front of a notebook or on the refrigerator, anywhere you will have quick access to it. It will help you stay on task and up-to-date on your assignments.


5. Don't be afraid to ask questions.

Your instructor will advise you when and how is best to contact him/her. If you are unsure about content or assignments, others may have the same question. In fact, it is helpful for all if you feel free to ask for assistance through email or discussion boards as the instructor chooses.
